nah because 201's are obtained through chip cards and 101's are obtained through swipes

yer but the service code on the magstripe can have a code of 201, which tells the machine to use chip and pin but if i change this code to 101 before i write it to the card i want to use. Then surely this will mean the machine will think the card does not have chip and pin?

yeah but if you put onto a magnetic stripe card without a chip it wont read at the register.

Yes, it will. Some bins you can actually change service code and it will only work once.
