I am here once again to spill the beans on trade secrets and inevitably piss off some seller who was making money off secret sauce (sorry!)

So drivers license have 2 sets of barcode:

1_basic-3816505291 (1).jpg PDF417

and

code39 (1).gif code 39 (or 128)

PDF417
PDF417 is the barcode of interest here, seeing as how the 1D barcode (39/128) is literally just a number converted into a barcode.

What data is even in a PDF417 barcode? PDF417 barcodes are generated using the AAMVA standard. What does that mean exactly?
I don't know. Good news is though, you don't need to know how it all works, a computer does all the nerd shit anyway.

All you need is a REAL barcode from the desired state. It doesn't need to be useable for anything, it can be reused/free/publically available. We just want to scan it to see the format in which the data is written

This is what you get when you scan a PDF417 barcode:

We got a bunch of random shit, so what? Well its not random, it's actually that AAMVA shit I mentioned before.
And here's the AAMVA standards manual detailing exactly what everything means

The important stuff:

long.jpg

long2.jpg

Now if this is overwhelming, don't worry, all we have to do now is reference the scanned data with the manual, and we learn which each part is and can fill it with the info we want.
The manual shows that
- DCS
- DAC
Are the first and last names, so you take plug in the first and last name you want to use. Repeat this for every line.

When you're finished replacing all the data on our template, you're gonna wanna copy the text and head to https://barcode.tec-it.com/en/PDF417

Screenshot from 2023-03-31 16-59-03.png

And you'll be rewwarded with a compliant, accurate barcode.

This walkthrough really only works if you have all or most of the data already. Could be useful in converitng MVR or blury barcodes into real, readable codes.

There's also this site that claims to do all the work for you, but I haven't tried it, and learning how to do it yourself makes you more self efficient and smarter.

If I scan a legit license , copy and paste the data into the barcode generator and then scan it with show-me-id app. It comes up as possible fake , unknown ID format. But if I scan the original license , it comes up
